Every single ingredient in this smoothie recipe is designed to promote better digestion as well as sooth the digestive tract. The base of this smoothie being aloe gel or juice, works to coat and sooth the GI tract during times of inflammation. Collagen peptides provide amino acids such as glutamine, that work to heal and repair the lining of the GI tract and promote optimal immune function. Coconut milk is an excellent source of healthy fat to stabilize blood sugar and also contains anti-inflammatory abilities. Ginger is an excellent anti-spasmodic and also works to reduce nausea, GI upset and inflammation.  The addition of frozen pineapple provides a natural source of bromelaine which is a proteolytic enzyme that aids in digestion and can reduce inflammation as well.

GATHER

2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

1/3 cup Aloe Vera Juice or Fresh Aloe Vera plant*

1/2 cup water + ice as desired

1/3 cup full fat canned Coconut Milk (see my shop page for my favorite brand)

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 cup of spinach

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

1/2 cup frozen mango

1 tsp freshly grated ginger

1 pinch mineral salt

MAKE

Start by adding water, aloe vera juice or gel, lemon juice and coconut milk to the blender. Next, add in your vital proteins powder, spinach, salt and ginger into your blender and give it a quick blitz. Lastly, add in your frozen fruit to your blender; adjusting with additional water to thin to desired consistency. Option to add 1/2 cup or so of ice if desired.

*It is important to use only the inner leaf of the aloe vera plan. When picking out an aloe gel or juice, ensure that it is made from only the inner leaf and not the entire leaf like this one.
