Keto cups or as some might call them-fat bombs are a sugar free and practically carbohydrate free dessert to enjoy while on a ketogenic or low carb diet (read more about a ketogenic diet here). Similar to sugar, fat is sensed by the tongue and immediately sends signals to the brain even prior to reaching the stomach where it will become digested. Fat sends signals of satiation to the brain and can even “trick” the brain into thinking something is sweet even when it is not. Aside from the texture and taste benefits; fat will not cause a spike in sugar and thus a spike in insulin like consumption of sugar/carbohydrates. Keep in mind that insulin is a hormone that signals our body to store fat – not break it down. Whether or not you are on a ketogenic or low carbohydrate diet these unsweet treats are sure to tame a sweet tooth craving!
