Smokey Okra and Tomatoes

That sticky texture okra is known for is actually (go figure) one of the most beneficial and therapeutic properties of okra.  The mucilaginous or "slimy" compounds in okra are extremely calming to the digestive tract and to joints and ligaments in the body. Okra "slime" also supplies a great amount of prebiotic fiber to support healthy bacterial flora in the GI tract. Unfortunately most of us are not fans of this slimy texture BUT when sauteed in the skillet or roasted in the oven; the slimy texture is non existent or at least minimized! This recipe is the perfect easy and slime free okra recipe great with eggs in the morning or with steak or chicken at dinner time!

1 carton of okra

1 cup cherry tomatoes

1 tbsp sesame seed oil

1/2 tsp salt

14 tsp smoked paprika

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/4 tsp cumin

1/4 tsp chili powder

Heat sesame seed oil in skillet over medium to high heat. Once heated, add raw okra and cherry tomatoes. Allow to saute for 2-3 minutes on on side before flipping or agitating veggies. Flip the veggies over and saute for another 2-3 minutes or until desired. Remove from heat and toss with chili powder, turmeric, cumin, smoked paprika and salt. Garnish with fresh cilantro and enjoy!
